What should I pay attention to when choosing a quartz resonator?Blue woodThe quartz resonator, also known as the crystal oscillator, can generate the clock frequency signal necessary for the central processing unit (CPU) to execute instructions. All instructions of the CPU are based on this foundation, and the higher the clock signal frequency, the faster the CPU usually runs. So, let's talk about the four parameters that can be used as a reference when choosing a quartz resonator.
1. Frequency units are usually divided into KHZ and MHZ. For active and passive crystal oscillators, 32.768 has both KHZ and MHZ units, so the frequency units must be standardized and clear.
2. Precision requirements, the high precision of SMT crystal oscillators is usually 10PPM, which is quite common. Special precision requirements need to be ordered. The levels of 15ppm, 20ppm, 25ppm, 30ppm, and 50ppm are distributed sequentially. Taking cylindrical crystal oscillators as an example, 5ppm is the highest level of precision in its cylindrical crystal oscillators, followed by 10ppm, 20ppm, and 30ppm.
3. Load capacitance is sometimes a very important parameter. If the load capacitance of the crystal oscillator does not match the capacitance parameters of the external two ends of the crystal oscillator correctly, it is easy to cause frequency deviation, accuracy errors, and so on, which can lead to the inability of the product to meet the precision requirements. Of course, there are also manufacturers who are not particularly strict with load capacitance parameters. So let's talk about a tuning fork crystal. Common load capacitors include 6PF, 7PF, 9PF, and 12.5PF; The commonly used load capacitors for MHZ crystal oscillators are 20PF and 12PF, followed by 8PF, 9PF, 15PF, 18PF, and so on.
4. Temperature parameters, usually referred to as operating temperature, are required for different products. For example, automotive grade requires temperatures of -40 to 105 degrees Celsius, industrial grade requires temperatures of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius, and consumer grade products require temperatures of -20 to 75 degrees Celsius.
